Why?

The thing about Google jobs is that there are no email alerts, no RSS feeds, not even an option to save your profile, and going through all the openings is insanely tedious. Hope this page will help alleviate some of these. I try to post an update at least once a week. If you find this useful please Like it with the facebook button on the right. To be honest this is also an exercise in publishing/generating content.

Use the links on the right to get alerts for new posts either by RSS feed or following the twitter account GoogleJobsAll. And last but not least don't forget the the full list of all the openings indexed so far.

Ok, so how's it done?

Google TOS specifically prohibits any form access through any automated means, so my explanation here is strictly "hypothetical". In other words if I hadn't had an army of minions to manually go through all the pages on the Google jobs site (like I do ;) I would have scripted the process entirely.

A few caveats to be aware here:

First of all, the list contains only unique job titles. Although there are several openings for Software Engineer in several locations it will only appear once here. I encourage you to go and search for the job titles you find interesting directly via the Google jobs web site to see if there are any near your location. This is page is in fact more than anything a discovery tool for new job names appearing at Google. Now, the rationale behind this is to keep the list in manageable size as it would easily grow to more than 3k items. Furthermore, the same job opening can have several different URLs depending on the entry page you start your search from, which makes it difficult to collapse duplicates. Ok, nothing that could not be solved one way or another, so if I get requests in the future, I might change this particular behaviour.

Secondly, please be aware that my efforts here probably do not exhaust all the possible openings out there anyway. Jobs unlinked from the main Google jobs pages (linked back from outside the official website, or posted outside of Google jobs) will be totally missed. A page is assumed to be a job opening only if it contains the phrases: This position is based or View job cart, and otherwise is ignored. Finally, the links are discovered only to a depth of 30 (which should be more than enough, and most of the jobs are found shallower).

Openings seen once are never re-visted. I am not aware of any of them expiring anyway. If they are in fact removed/deactivated at some point, the discovery algorithm will be modified accordingly.

Feedback/comments welcome.
